After a resounding success of Festival New Zealand held two years ago, Te Roopu Ataawhai Inc. in partnership with Victorian Multicultural Commission, Melbourne City Council and Multicultural Arts of Victoria are proud to present Festival New Zealand 2007 on Saturday 1st September 2007 .

Waka Ama Exhibition on the Yarra

  • Waka Ama stems back to ancient history when our Polynesian people needed to get from one place to another and for harvesting food. Today, we still use Waka Ama but for competitive racing. With the support of Footscray and Patterson Lakes Outriggers Club's - We will be treated to an exhibition of this fine art.
  • Life Saving Victoria 100th birthday celebrations 2007 - Rescue demonstrations
  • As a result, this sport attracts people seeking not only an outdoor ocean orientated sport, but one which offers deeper cultural and spiritual significance.
Cultural Concert

  • Opens with a special procession and sounds of the Didgeridoo and Conch by Indigenous and Polynesian members who will accompany VIP guests .
  • Polynesian Cultural Groups will showcase their unique traditional cultural songs and dances.
  • Community Elders Performance.

Battle of the Voice - Te Pakanga Finalists Competition

  • Te Pakanga - Battle of the Voice - Heat competitions held at
  • Sunshine City Club June 3rd, June 17th, June 24th;
  • Yarraville RSL Club July 1st, July 15th, Semi finals July 29th, Aug 12th.

Top 6 Finalists will compete for the Major prize package. These are the Best of the Best from the Heats. Details will be available through our website www.ataawhai.org.au as from 2nd April.

Youth Entertainment

  • Youth display their creativeness, energy and strength through art forms such as - hip-hop dances, rapping, singing and musical performances.
Battle of the Voice - Te Pakanga Winner Announced.

  • Event attendees on the Day will decide who wins.
  • A major prize package will also be awarded.
Interactive Crowd Participation

Cultural Art, Crafts and Food Stalls will open from 10.00am til 5.00pm in River Terrace (Federation Square).
